Affiliated Auctions, North Florida & South Georgia’s Premier auction house, will hold a three day auction event on December 2nd-4th, 2011, which will feature Pre-Columbian artifacts from the personal collection of Russell Hicken.

Russell Hicken, prominent museum professional and fine art appraiser, amassed a large collection of Pre-Columbian art and artifacts throughout his long professional career. As director of the Jacksonville Art Museum, the Tampa Art Institute, and the Mint Museum of Art, Hicken brought his love of art and culture to the community. Affiliated Auctions now has the pleasure of offering his fine personal collection of Pre-Columbian artifacts to the public at their Fine Art and Collectibles Auction on December 4th.

Hicken’s Pre-Columbian collection includes a diverse array of pieces including sodalite beads found insitu, Mesoamerican gold tumbago beads, jade bead necklaces, jaguar effigy figures, and much more. Included in this assortment is a rare Pre-Columbian sodalite bead and gold necklace constructed from the very best of Hicken’s assortment of sodalite beads. These beads were originally found at a burial site in either Bolivia or Peru and reconstructed to make this beautiful necklace. This particular piece features 31 large beads of exceptional blue color and several gold beads. Stunning and unique, this necklace carries significant archeological and aesthetic value. Also included in the auction are two stone jaguar cat effigies. These figures are quite unique and most likely originated from an early Mesoamerican culture. The sale also features a Veracruz culture (100-1000 A.D.) Sonrientes ceramic head. Sonrientes, or smiling faces, feature the typical flattened head strived for by the Remojadas people. The Hicken collection will be included in a three day auction event. In addition to the Fine Antique and Collectibles Auction, Affiliated Auctions will put on a Friday Night Discovery sale on the 2nd and a Military Auction on the 3rd.

Affiliated Auctions is located in Tallahassee Florida, and offers a wide selection of quality collectibles to buyers from around the world, who are then able to view the items online and place their bid. Bids are accepted on the floor, over the Internet, or through fax or mail. This provides international and local buyers alike the opportunity to acquire unique, sought after, and often one of a kind items through an open bidding process.

Hey, just looking around some blogs, seems a pretty nice platform you are using. I’m currently using WordPress for a few of my sites but looking to change one of them over to a platform similar to yours as a trial run. Anything in particular you would recommend about it?
